Controversy Over Obi’s Presence Cheering Nigeria Against Angola (Video)

2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi made a loud presence at the Abidjan Stadium as he took a front position in cheering Nigeria in the 1-0 defeat of Angola in the AFCON quarter-final.

However, the presence of Obi at the stadium as Nigeria tackled Angola stirred controversy at least on the part of social media influencer and critic, Daniel Regha who called it a PR stunt. According to him only influencers and entertainers should be at the stadium and political actors should be at home solving the problems in Nigeria.

GWG.ng reports that Regha’s criticism nonetheless that the presence Obi lighted up social media with many hailing his presence. Not surprisingly, many including Obidients as his supporters are so-called tried to make political capital out of it.

However, Obi played down his presence. Many football enthusiasts were also quick to pull out from memory the fact that Obi was also in the South African stadium in 2013 when Nigeria last won the AFCON.

Obi was escorted to Abidjan by some of his close associates including Valentine Ozigbo, the PDP candidate in the 2021 governorship election in Anambra State and his 2023 presidential campaign manager, Akin Osuntokun.

Many Nigerians resorted to Twitter to make their comments on the presence of Obi in the Abidjan Stadium following his circuit around Nigeria counseling victims of insecurity in Abuja and Plateau State.
