The suspected abductors of pupils and staffers from the Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure Ekiti, Ekiti State, have been apprehended by operatives of the State Police Command.

The Police made this announcement while parading the suspects before journalists on Friday evening at the Command headquarters in Ado Ekiti. According to the Police, one of the suspects, among the nine apprehended, was shot dead during a gun duel with the officers.

According to reports from LEADERSHIP, the gunmen carried out the abduction on the evening of Monday, January 29, 2024. The incident occurred along the Emure–Eporo Road as the victims were returning to Eporo after the school day, traveling in the school bus. Among those abducted were five students, three female teachers, and the driver of the bus.

Tragically, the bus driver lost his life in the hands of the gunmen, who later released the remaining eight individuals after allegedly receiving a ransom of N15 million from the families of the victims. The harrowing ordeal captured the attention of the community and law enforcement, leading to a concerted effort by the State Police Command to track down the perpetrators.

The swift action by the police resulted in the apprehension of the suspected abductors, providing a semblance of justice for the victims and their families. While the details surrounding the operation and subsequent arrest are still emerging, the successful outcome serves as a testament to the dedication and commitment of law enforcement in ensuring the safety and security of citizens.

As investigations continue, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to dismantle criminal networks and prevent future incidents of kidnapping and violence. The resolve of the State Police Command to hold perpetrators accountable sends a clear message that such heinous acts will not be tolerated, and those responsible will face the full force of the law.
