Akerele deputy governor

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has picked Omobayo Godwin as his deputy, just hours after the impeachment of his erstwhile deputy, Philip Shaibu.

GWG.ng Politics Desk posits that the move is an audacious move by the outgoing governor to sideline his major political foes in Edo North who are mostly based in the dominant Etsako region of the Edo North Senatorial District.

GWG.ng reports that Omobayo’s inauguration is also set to take place today at the Edo State Government House in Benin City.

Born July 19, 1986, Omobayo hails from Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state, a first for the area in the Fourth Republic and it is believed to be a move to garner support for his candidate, Asue Ighodalo in the forthcoming governorship election against the tide being galvanised by his major political foes in Edo North.

Shaibu, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Chief Dan Orbih and several other political heavyweights are from the Etsako speaking areas of Edo North where the PDP is not expected to garner much votes given the influence of the aforesaid.

Even more, the new deputy, Omobayo was an active Obidient who contested in the last round of elections on the platform of Labour Party.

Omobayo holds a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), preparing for the role of a professional and an expert in public administration.

He is a registered member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

Before his new appointment, he served as a Senior Maintenance Engineer at Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, cutting his professional teeth in the operations in the South-South area, providing top-notch services and growing the business in the region.
