President Bola Tinubu has been deeply moved by the heartbreaking helicopter crash tragedy that claimed the lives of Herbert Wigwe, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, his wife Chizoba, their son, and others on board.

The incident, occurring near Nipton, between Nevada and California, involved a Eurocopter EC 130 chopper that crashed last Friday night, with no survivors.

In a heartfelt statement released by his media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu expressed his profound shock and distress upon learning of the tragic demise of not only the Wigwes but also Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc. He described the event as “an overwhelming tragedy that is shocking beyond comprehension.”

President Tinubu extended his deepest condolences to the families of the Wigwes and Ogunbanjos, the entire business community, and all those impacted by this devastating loss. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed souls and beseeched God Almighty to grant solace to the grieving families and the countless Nigerians mourning during this profoundly painful time.

While the US government confirmed the fatalities in an official statement, Access Bank has not provided specific confirmation regarding Mr. Wigwe’s death. Nevertheless, the reverberations of this tragedy are felt deeply across the nation, highlighting the somber reality of loss and the fragility of life.

The tragic crash has left a void not only in the lives of the victims’ families but also in the hearts of countless individuals who knew and admired them. Herbert Wigwe, known for his exemplary leadership in the banking sector, was highly respected and admired for his contributions to Access Bank and the broader Nigerian business landscape. His wife, Chizoba, and their son, who perished alongside him, were beloved members of their community, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.

Similarly, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, was a revered figure in the financial sector, admired for his integrity, wisdom, and dedication to advancing Nigeria’s economic development.

As the nation mourns the loss of these esteemed individuals, President Tinubu’s words of comfort and solidarity offer a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness of grief. His call for prayers and support for the bereaved families underscores the importance of compassion and unity in times of tragedy.

While the circumstances surrounding the helicopter crash remain under investigation, the memory of Herbert Wigwe, Chizoba Wigwe, their son, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo will live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished them. Their legacies will serve as a reminder of the preciousness of life and the profound impact that individuals can have on their communities and beyond.
