Chippa United’s Chief Executive Officer, Siviwe Mpengesi, has disclosed that their primary goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, might accept an offer elsewhere this summer. Nwabali’s stellar performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations have garnered attention, fueling speculation about his departure from the South African club.

During the competition, Saudi club El-Ettifaq and Sky Bet Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers were reportedly interested in acquiring the shot-stopper. In addition to these suitors, Belgian Pro League side Union St Gilloise and Kaizer Chiefs have also emerged as potential destinations for the former Enyimba goalie.

Mpengesi confirmed ongoing discussions with foreign clubs and asserted that they would not obstruct Nwabali’s departure if they received an acceptable offer.

“We are talking to a few clubs abroad. We also believe that he needs something better, especially after the performance that he showed at the AFCON,” Mpengesi told iDiski Times.

“You know, being number two, they were runner-ups, he was number two, second best goalkeeper of AFCON, so if the opportunity comes especially abroad, of course even if it comes locally and the offer is for him, it’s not even for us. If the offer for him is better then we will not hold on to him.”

Nwabali has maintained nine clean sheets for Chippa United this season. It is for now not known which offer Nwabali will take to further his professional career.
