Controversial Nigerian activist and arguably Peter Obi’s most recognisable female supporter, Aisha Yesufu on Thursday triggered a storm online with her X handle about the choice of Super Eagles goal keeper, Stanley Nwabili in the semifinal cracker with South Africa.

GWG.ng reports that Aisha Yesufu stirred a social media storm with two different posts, first on Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabili who came out as the man of the match in the game against South Africa and then on skipper, Ahmed Musa.

Aisha Yesufu commenting on the choice of Super Eagles goalkeeper posted thus: “Imagine instead of fielding Stanley Nwabali we decided to field a goalkeeper from the 80s because it is his turn.

Make we Dey use football sense during election. Religious and tribal sentiments don’t give you positive results.”

While a section of netizens on the X app were enraged at the Aisha’s post, some appreciated the analytsis she drew in connecting football and politics.

Olubunmi Aro said, ‘Trying to infuse politics into football makes you more dull. You are not a good example to women to be sincere”.

OladeleEnahoro sharply replied Olubunmi Aro, “You are the one who’s extremely dull here. What she said is that we took the best or a good goalkeeper to AFCON irrespective of his ethnicity/religion but when it’s time to elect leaders we bring in ethnicity, religion…”

Chiwetalu Joshua said, “Football should definitely teach Nigeria a lesson.

See how the entire country went into jubilation without checking which tribe played the game. It goes to show that when there is a victory it is celebrated by all Nigerians.

“What will happen if we have a president that will make all of us winners; for sure every Nigerian will rejoice.

I have been watching to know if any Nigerian will mention the tribe of the goalkeeper or the tribe of the player who missed his spot kick but none has been said of such. When we win it is for us all and when we lose it is for all of us as well.

Nigeria 🇳🇬 must win.”

Mr Simple said, “Election don go now, allow us to enjoy our football, must u bring politics into everything? election no be do or die matter Biko, in view centers we don’t have diff parties , all of us are Nigerian enjoying football together, she u wan kill us unto say unna lost election ni.”

Commenting on the post by Aisha Yesufu on the Super Eagles, Maximus said, “The match yesterday clearly shows what we can achieve as a nation if we stick and work together as one towards a common goal. Players from all tribes playing together to achieve a collective goal.

” We will achieve great heights the moment we come together as one and work towards a common goal. APC/BAT represents our opponents trying to stop us from achieving that goal by introducing their divide and rule tactics which includes ethnic bigotry and religious theatrics.”

Kerous said, “Omo! This mathematical angle is called acute get sense angle.”

GWG.ng reports that Aisha Yesufu followed her post on Nwabali by urging Nigerian political class to also emulate the example of Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa who despite not being fielded has been very supportive of the team cheering and reportedly being the backbone of the team.
