Controversial media personality, Ifedayo Olarinde, widely known as Daddy Freeze, has advocated for Nigerian women to recognize their husbands as their “heads” rather than simply as partners.

In a video message posted on his Instagram account, Daddy Freeze highlighted that various traditions, including African, Middle Eastern, Christian, and Islamic, emphasize the husband’s role as the head of the family, diverging from the Western concept where spouses are considered partners.

Daddy Freeze pointed out that cultural traditions across Nigeria, such as Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, and Efik, as well as religious teachings in Christianity and Islam, consistently emphasize the husband’s position as the head of the household.

In contrast, he noted, the Western perspective often views husbands and wives as equal partners in marriage.

“Your husband is not supposed to be your partner, he is your head.”

He, however, advised women to be careful who they “submit headship to.”
GWG.ng reports that the submission by Daddy Freeze on the headship of men over women in marriage relationships is bound to elicit the approval of many in Nigeria who subscribe to Christian and Islamic tenets on marriage. However, those who subscribe to Western values will not agree to the claim of Daddy Freeze on the headship of men over women.
