Three Chibok Girls Graduate From American University Of Nigeria Among 189 Students
Three Chibok girls who escaped Boko Haram captivity and attended the American University of Nigeria (AUN) were among the 189 students who graduated with their first degrees on Saturday.
GWG.ng reports that of the hundreds of girls who were abducted from Chibok in 2014, that only a few have been lucky enough to escape and lead better lives.
During the 15th Commencement ceremony at the American University of Nigeria’s main campus in Yola on Saturday, President (Vice Chancellor) Dwayne Frazier addressed the graduates.
In his remarks, Frazier urged the graduates to uphold the core values and principles of the institution as they move forward in their lives.
He reminded them that the university has equipped them to face new challenges and encouraged them to apply what they have learned to overcome future obstacles.
“I have no doubt that you will excel because you have all shown resilience, determination, and commitment. These qualities will propagate you for the best even as you contribute to the development of the country,” Frazier told them.
In his message, the guest speaker, Professor Mike Ozekhome, asserted that the institution has proven that it can impact the world positively.
“With the entrepreneurship lectures and training you have received here at AUN, you can create jobs for yourselves,” he charged the students.
Eight students were awarded PhDs, while ten students received MSc degrees. Additionally, 189 students were awarded their first degrees.
Mike Ozekhome was honored with a Doctor of Letters degree for his significant contributions to promoting peace, human rights, the rule of law, and good governance in Nigeria.
