Price Hike

A viral photo on social media on the price of Peak Milk has sparked outrage and concern over the affordability of basic necessities in Nigeria. The picture showed a large tin of Peak Milk with a staggering price tag of 61,750 naira, prompting a netizen to question how ordinary citizens can survive amidst such exorbitant prices.

The netizen’s caption reads, “How poor man go survive? How is milk more expensive than proposed minimum wage. Proposed o!”

GWG.ng reports that this sentiment resonates with many, as the current minimum wage approved by the federal government stands at a meager 30,000 naira. The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has been advocating for a wage increase, but the government seems to be dragging its feet.

Adding to the controversy, the federal government has proposed a new national minimum wage of 48,000 naira, which is still being negotiated with the NLC. However, the NLC considers this amount insufficient, leaving many to wonder how they will make ends meet.

The Peak Milk price tag underline the widening gap between the rich and the poor in Nigeria. As the cost of living continues to soar, it becomes increasingly difficult for low-income earners to afford basic necessities like food and milk. This situation demands urgent attention from policymakers to address the plight of the common man.
