Almajiri ID Cards in Gombe

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Gombe State on Tsangaya and Almajiri Affairs, Sayyada Aminatu,  has announced the government’s initiative to collect data of all students enrolled in Tsangaya Schools and Almajiris across the state.

This measure includes issuing identity cards to these students as part of Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya’s broader efforts to overhaul the Almajiri education system and ascertain their demographics.

During an interview, Aminatu stated that her office, in collaboration with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), will oversee the registration process. The issuance of identity cards aims to facilitate the students’ movement within the state without encountering harassment.

Aminatu also expressed dismay at the behavior of parents who neglect their children by abandoning them in Tsangaya schools without adequate support, forcing the children to fend for themselves.

Aminatu further said, “Everyone knows that the education system has changed, but these young children are seen roaming the streets and have become a nuisance at bus stops and other gatherings due to a lack of Western education.

“It is disheartening to notice Almajiris spending the night in motor parks and markets. These young children have no means of survival due to the high cost of living.”
