Renowned Nollywood actor and producer Henry Asonna was fatally shot by police during a kidnap attempt in the Ladipo area of Lagos State. The incident occurred during a gun duel between Asonna’s gang and operatives from the Lagos State Command.

According to reports, Asonna was killed when police intelligence led officers to intercept his notorious kidnap gang as they planned to abduct high-net-worth individuals in Lagos. The Lagos State Command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, detailed the events during a press conference.

“About two weeks ago, we received credible and actionable intelligence regarding a notorious gang of kidnappers targeting wealthy individuals in Lagos,” SP Hundeyin stated. “Acting on this intelligence, CP Fayoade directed our tactical teams to commence immediate surveillance and monitoring. We determined that the gang planned to strike on Thursday in the Ladipo area of Lagos.”

SP Hundeyin further explained that the police were able to lay an ambush for the kidnappers. “The kidnappers were caught off guard and engaged our officers in a shootout. Ultimately, nine of them were neutralized, while two escaped with gunshot injuries. We recovered four AK-47 rifles, four locally-made semi-automatic pistols, nine AK-47 magazines, three walkie-talkies, and one POS machine from the scene.”

The revelation of Henry Asonna’s involvement in criminal activities has sent shockwaves through the Nollywood community. Fellow actor Stanley Ontop expressed his disbelief on Instagram, lamenting the dual life Asonna led.

“Those of you who feel less of yourselves, calm down, God’s time is the best. Look at this guy; he was a Nollywood producer. A producer by day and a kidnapper by night. He was shot dead while attempting to kidnap a wealthy Lagosian, unaware that the police had intelligence on them,” Ontop wrote.

He continued, “This is a huge blow to Nollywood. I call on the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to ban all the movies he has produced. It’s a big slap to our industry.”

Henry Asonna, known for his work with Asonrich Movies, had produced several films, including “Love at the Pool,” “My Half New,” “My Half,” “Little Top Up,” and “Blind Blood Full,” among others. His death and the circumstances surrounding it have left a dark mark on his legacy and the Nollywood industry as a whole.
