Vice President Kashim Shettima has stirred up strong reactions online after allegedly saying that ‘N8,000 can change the life of a youth who knows what he is doing.’ His comment has left many Nigerians surprised, especially given the country’s current economic challenges, where prices of goods have risen sharply.

Nigerians on social media have been reacting to Shettima’s statement, questioning how realistic it is in today’s economy. Some have expressed their doubts and frustrations with what the vice president said.

For example, @DanielRegha criticized the statement, comparing it to the large amounts of money politicians receive. He asked, “N8,000 can change the life of a youth who knows what he is doing, but lawmakers need millions as monthly payments to survive, right? How much is Shettima’s salary plus allowance yearly?” This highlights the difference people feel between what the government says and the reality of their lives.

Similarly, @realsaintgeorge suggested that if N8,000 is truly life-changing, then senators and politicians should also be paid just N7,000. This sarcastic comment questions the fairness of the vice president’s statement.

Another user, @Engr_Ashile, jokingly said that the vice president’s comment sounds more like something from a comedy skit. “I know skit business is booming but I don’t expect VP to join. But money is money Shay,” he remarked, showing how unbelievable some people find Shettima’s claim.

@CatiaKyen shared that Shettima might be out of touch with the cost of living outside Northern Nigeria. She said, “This man thinks the standard of living everywhere is the same as in the Northern part. He should pack for side joh.”

Some people also expressed concern about what might happen if Shettima were to become president. @Sirfreshsemi said, “We think we are suffering now? Wait make anything happen to Tinubu and this cl*wn takes over,” implying that things could get worse under his leadership. @macabelee also hinted at this fear, saying people should “take a minute of your day to wish Tinubu good health” to avoid Shettima taking over.

Others, like @iamcollinsopara, made fun of the idea that N8,000 could change someone’s life, suggesting that “half of Nigerian youths don’t know what they are doing then,” showing disbelief in Shettima’s statement.

Some users saw the comment as an insult to Nigerian youths. @LuckyGoldx and @RealOlaudah both reacted negatively, with @RealOlaudah calling Shettima “an extremely wicked man” for making such a remark.

Many expressed their disappointment, with @NAYUM_ng simply stating, “THIS IS VERY RIDICULOUS COMING FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT OF A COUNTRY UNDERGOING SERIOUS ECONOMIC HARDSHIP.”

Finally, @JakesOlasupo criticized both Shettima and those who still support him, sarcastically saying, “Na N8k changed @KashimSM life,” and blaming “idiotic youths” for supporting “out of touch clowns.”

Vice President Shettima’s comment has led to widespread criticism, with many Nigerians expressing frustration and disbelief over his statement in light of the country’s current economic situation.
