The Imo State Police Command has arrested Mr. Dominic Ikpeama, the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward chairman in Ejemekwuru, Oguta Local Government Area, for allegedly selling federal government palliatives intended for the local community.

The arrest followed a petition filed by the traditional ruler of Ejemekwuru, His Royal Highness Eze Hypolite Obinna Duru, at the Oguta divisional police headquarters. In the petition, the monarch accused Ikpeama of selling 20 bags of corn and five bags of garri that were meant to alleviate the suffering of the people in the Ejemekwuru autonomous community.

Eze Duru condemned Ikpeama’s actions, describing them as a betrayal of the federal and state governments’ efforts to provide relief to those in need. Speaking to journalists in Owerri on Saturday, the monarch confirmed that Ikpeama’s arrest was directly linked to his illegal sale of the food items provided by the government for the community’s benefit.

“The arrest of Mr. Ikpeama by the police was necessary because he sold the food items that were given to our community by the federal government,” Eze Duru stated, emphasizing the severity of the situation. The traditional ruler expressed his commitment to ensuring that such acts of sabotage do not go unpunished in his community.
