Shock As Destiny Etiko Faces Backlash Over Comment On Hardship

Nollywood star Destiny Etiko has found herself at the center of online criticism following her remarks on the escalating hardship in Nigeria, particularly the surging cost of fuel.

In an Instagram post, Destiny Etiko expressed her frustration, revealing that fuel now costs ₦1,200 per litre, making it increasingly difficult for the average citizen to cope and with it increasing the hardship in the land. Destiny, who had hoped the nationwide protest on August 1st would bring about some relief, lamented the lack of progress since then.

She wrote:
“Fuel is now ₦1200. What is going on BIKONU? I honestly thought the protest was going to help salvage this economic hardship in this country. It’s becoming too hard for a normal layman to eat three square meals. Niger, which way?”

While the post by Destiny Etiko appeared to be a genuine expression of concern of the hardship in the land, it quickly sparked outrage among her followers. Many Nigerians flooded her comment section, criticizing her remarks, accusing her of being out of touch with the struggles of the masses.

It’s worth noting that the protests in early August, aimed at addressing the country’s economic challenges, saw limited participation from celebrities, which likely fueled some of the backlash directed at Destiny Etiko.
