Former media aide to the president, Bashir Ahmad, has explained why ex-President Muhammadu Buhari didn’t attend the funeral of Hajiya Dada, the mother of the late ex-President Umar Musa Yar’adua.

Ahmad said Buhari wasn’t at the burial because he is currently out of the country.

He also denied claims that Buhari skipped the burial on purpose, pointing out that Hajiya Dada was the mother of Buhari’s close friend and classmate, the late General Shehu Musa Yar’adua.

Ahmad added that Buhari had sent his condolences to the family.

“I have seen some social media posts suggesting that former President Muhammadu Buhari, while in Daura, refused to attend the Janaiza (funeral) of Hajiya Dada, the mother of his good friend and classmate, late General Shehu Musa Yar’adua and former President Umar Musa Yar’adua, in Katsina. The former President is currently not in the country, and this is the reason for his inability to attend the funeral. He has, however, sent his personal heartfelt condolences to the family,” Ahmad wrote on his X account on Wednesday.

GWG.ng Recalls that Hajiya Dada died at the Katsina Teaching Hospital on Monday evening at the age of 102.

Hajiya Dada was the mother of Umaru Musa Yar’adua, who was Nigeria’s President from 2007 until he passed away in 2010. She was widely respected for her strength and the significant role she played in shaping Umaru’s life and political journey.

Dada was also the mother of the late Shehu Musa Yar’adua and Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, who is currently the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army.

Her passing has led to a wave of condolences from across the country, with numerous prominent individuals and politicians honoring her legacy.
