Okpebholo Before Akpabio In Gratitude

The newly elected governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, made a notable gesture of gratitude when he knelt before Senate President Godswill Akpabio after his triumph in the recent gubernatorial election.

Okpebholo’s heartfelt thanks stemmed from the significant role Akpabio played in supporting his bid for the governorship.

GWG.ng reports that at the onset of the contest for the APC ticket that there were suggestions that the lobby for Okpebholo was spearheaded by Akpabio who it was suggested thought it well that if the ticket was seeded to the Central that the senator representing the zone should get the ticket.

That help it was gathered was crucial in helping Okpebholo navigate towards the APC ticket despite the strong efforts of Senator Adams Oshiomhole who initially wanted the ticket for Rep Dennis Idahosa. Eventually, the lobby camp behind Okpebholo prevailed paving way for the eventual victory that was also strongly backed by Oshiomhole.

Okpebholo, who emerged as the flag bearer for the All Progressives Congress (APC), acknowledged Akpabio’s backing during the election, which he credited as key to his success. “I owe a lot of this victory to the support and guidance of Senate President Akpabio,” Okpebholo remarked, emphasizing the importance of Akpabio’s influence in his campaign.

Senate President Akpabio had been actively involved in Edo State during the election period, providing crucial support that helped secure Okpebholo’s candidacy within the APC.

The election itself was fiercely contested, with Okpebholo securing 291,667 votes to defeat his main challenger, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes. Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) trailed in third place with 22,763 votes.

APC’s dominance was evident as they claimed victory in 11 out of the 18 local government areas in Edo State, leaving PDP with control over the remaining seven.
