Kanayo O Kanayo, Madam Saje Named 2024 BON Lifetime Award Winners
By Benjamin Abioye
Nollywood veterans Kanayo O Kanayo and Madam Saje, born Fausat Balogun, will be honored with the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ awards at the 2024 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards.
The announcement was made by Seun Oloketuyi, the founder of the BON Awards, in a statement at the weekend.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 24 at the Sugar Factory Film Studios in Ilorin, Kwara State. Speaking on the significance of the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award, Oloketuyi emphasized the need to celebrate film icons while they are still alive.
“Why must we wait till our film heroes are dead to give them awards? Posthumous awards are good, but it is better the recipient is alive to receive the awards,” he said.
Feranmi Olaoye, the executive producer of the BON Awards, explained the choice of Kanayo and Madam Saje for the prestigious recognition. “They are people we grew up watching, and they deserve to be celebrated. They inspired the generation we watch now, and they still maintained their stand in the industry. That’s why we have chosen them as this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award winners,” Olaoye noted.
Other notable actors who have received the BON ‘Lifetime Achievement’ awards in previous editions include Adebayo Salami, Toyin Adegbola, and Madam Kofo.
Since its inception in December 2009, the BON Awards have served as a platform to celebrate excellence in the Nigerian movie industry. The event continues to recognize the contributions of filmmakers and actors, fostering growth in Nollywood.
Earlier this year, the BON Awards organizers announced a partnership with media firm Group 8 Ltd for the next five editions of the ceremony, aiming to further elevate the stature of the awards in the industry.
