A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit brought by some Niger Delta communities against President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Chiedu Ebie as the chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

GWG.ng reports that the court was presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.

The plaintiffs, represented by Chief Goodnews Gereghewei, Chief Eddy Brayei, and Mr. Jonah Engineyouwei, argued that Ebie’s appointment went against the NDDC Act. They claimed that Ebie did not represent the oil-producing area that has the highest production, as required by the Act.

The plaintiffs are from Bisangbene, Agge, and Amatu 1 communities in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. They named several defendants in the case, including President Tinubu, the Senate President, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the NDDC, and Ebie himself.

The plaintiffs alleged that this appointment ignored their communities’ interests in the region’s oil production.
