Man Who Wanted To Be Nigeria’s President Evicted From Abuja Home Over Rent

A 2023 All Progressives Congress, APC presidential aspirant, Tunde Omosebi, has been evicted from his home in Abuja after a long dispute over unpaid rent and a violation of his lease agreement.

The eviction took place on Friday, November 15, when a court enforcement team, assisted by police officers, carried out the removal from his property in a prime area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The landlord, who asked to remain anonymous, explained that Omosebi’s tenancy expired more than four years ago. Despite several attempts to settle the matter peacefully, Omosebi failed to pay his rent and refused to leave. “My patience ran out after years of unpaid rent and a constant refusal to leave the property. We tried to resolve the matter amicably, but after several attempts, we had no choice but to take legal action,” the landlord said.

The landlord added that the lease agreement was meant to last for a fixed period, but Omosebi overstayed it, which led to a breach of contract. In June 2022, Omosebi sent a letter to the landlord stating his intention to end the lease due to “irreconcilable differences” over the landlord’s failure to honor the terms of the agreement. In the same letter, Omosebi made it clear that he would not renew the lease and formally notified the landlord to expect him to vacate the property.

“Due to irreconcilable differences on your breach of agreements, we opt out of renewing our lease. This letter serves as notice to vacate your property within the allowable period,” Omosebi wrote. However, despite sending this letter, Omosebi did not leave the property, prompting the landlord to take legal action.

The landlord also mentioned that Omosebi claimed to own the property but never appeared in court to defend this claim. As a result, the court ruled in favor of the landlord, granting the eviction.
