Tensions ran high during Monday’s episode of Politics Today on Channels TV as Daniel Bwala, the newly appointed spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, faced tough questions about his previous criticisms of the administration.

Seun Okinbaloye, the host of the program, revisited Bwala’s past statements where he condemned Tinubu’s government, including his opposition to the controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket and remarks claiming that even “30 years” would not suffice for Tinubu to fix Nigeria. Okinbaloye repeatedly asked if Bwala still stood by those statements, particularly given his new role in Tinubu’s administration.

However, Bwala evaded direct responses, claiming he had addressed the issues in the past. Okinbaloye countered by asserting that Nigerians deserved clarity now that Bwala held a key government position, emphasizing the shift in his political alignment.

Bwala’s reluctance to provide a clear answer sparked reactions online, with many questioning his credibility and commitment to his earlier views. Critics argued that his acceptance of the role contradicts his former stance, especially as Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have not denounced the religious affiliation concerns he previously raised.

This development adds to the ongoing controversy surrounding Bwala’s appointment. A former staunch supporter of Atiku Abubakar, Bwala was known for his vocal criticism of Tinubu’s government. Since his appointment, detractors have argued that his inclusion in Tinubu’s team undermines his earlier positions and casts doubts on his sincerity.

The incident has fueled public debate, with many Nigerians questioning whether political appointments are driven by principle or convenience.
