Dr Rueben Abati, the near consummate anchor of the Arise News Television’s The Morning Show was trending on social media on Thursday after he alleged that the Igbo in Nigeria do not allow outsiders to purchase land in the Southeast.

Making reference to the deceased First Republic politician, Chief TOS Benson, Abati said that despite being an in-law that he was refused the opportunity to purchase land in the Southeast for his progenies through his Igbo wife.

GWG.ng reports that Dr Abati spoke while commenting on a remark by Senator Godswill Akpabio that he would do anything demanded of his Igbo in-laws to keep his wife.

The quote was immediately taken up by Lagospidia, the extreme Yoruba group which had been accused of fanning hatred towards the Igbo in Lagos and the brain behind subtle campaigns for the Igbo to leave Lagos.

The group posted Abati’s excerpts on its X handle to further its anti-Igbo agenda.

Expectedly, a response also came from the Igbo many of whom took to X and Facebook.

Many others who commented debunked the claim by Abati with some making mention of Yoruba personalities with landed properties in the Southeast.

Abati has yet to respond to the social media storm.

GWG.ng gathered some of the comments

GWG.ng reports that focus would be on Abati to see if he would make a retraction about the Igbo not allowing non-indigenes to buy land in the Southeast.
