Seyi Tinubu 2027: APC Chief Dismisses Campaign, Ruling Lagos Not A Child’s Play

As speculations intensify around the 2027 gubernatorial election in Lagos State, All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Joe Igbokwe has openly dismissed the suitability of President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, for the governorship seat.

Igbokwe described Lagos’ governorship as a critical leadership role that cannot be entrusted to a “boy,” signaling his strong disapproval of recent endorsements of Seyi Tinubu by youth groups.

Earlier this week, the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), a conglomeration of youth organizations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, announced their support for Seyi Tinubu as a potential candidate for Lagos governor in 2027.

Reacting to the endorsement via his official social media account, Igbokwe described the move as a baseless distraction and an attempt to undermine the presidency of Bola Tinubu.

“Who are these faceless people pushing Seyi Tinubu for Lagos Governor? This is a needless distraction. To pull PBAT down is their target,” Igbokwe stated, using the acronym for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The APC stalwart further stressed the importance of mature and experienced leadership in Lagos, insisting that the governorship of Nigeria’s commercial hub “is not the job of boys.”

While Seyi Tinubu has yet to make a public statement regarding the endorsement, political observers believe his father’s political influence could significantly shape the trajectory of Lagos’ leadership in the coming years a fact that Igbokwe did not address in his post.
