German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is set to begin a three-day official visit to Nigeria from December 10 to December 12, 2024.

The German Embassy in Abuja disclosed the details of President Steinmeier’s visit in an official statement, emphasizing its significance for strengthening ties between Germany and Nigeria.

During his stay in Abuja, President Steinmeier is scheduled to meet with Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, and Dr. Alieu Touray, the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission. These discussions are expected to focus on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing regional challenges.

After completing his engagements in Abuja, Steinmeier will travel to Lagos. His itinerary includes meetings with business leaders, a visit to a start-up hub, and interactions with cultural and civil society figures. Among those he will meet are Dr. Nike Okundaye, a prominent artist and cultural icon, and Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka. The President will also tour Lagos to gain insights into the city’s urban development challenges and opportunities.

Accompanying President Steinmeier is a delegation of German business leaders from sectors such as IT, high-tech, and energy. This reflects Germany’s growing interest in exploring investment opportunities in Nigeria.

According to the embassy, the visit of the German President’s visit underscores the country’s commitment to fostering stronger economic and cultural connections with Nigeria.
