Police VeryDarkMan investigation ₦180 Million

The credibility of prominent online social crusader, VeryDarkMan was in more jeopardy on Saturday as the Police for the first time reacted to his claim that N160m had been stolen from an NGO run by him

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied knowledge of the reported disappearance of ₦180 million from the account of a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) run by social media commentator Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

The police clarified that they were not investigating the matter, and that no such case was ever reported to them on a missing money from the NGO by VeryDarkMan.

FCT Police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, stated, “The FCT Police Command is not aware of any case involving VDM’s missing funds and is not conducting any investigation into it. The individual in question should be contacted to clarify where the matter was reported, as there is no record of such a case with the FCT Police Command.”

The controversy began when VeryDarkMan shared a video on Instagram on Friday, claiming that ₦180 million had been stolen from his NGO’s account. He alleged that someone hacked the NGO’s website, leaving only ₦20 million in the account. Otse mentioned that they had tracked down the suspect, who was arrested, and he stated, “The account is now on PND (Post No Debit). There’s ₦20 million left, while ₦160 million was diverted. We’re heading to Jos to recover the money.”

Despite his claims, many people have expressed skepticism about the situation, questioning the credibility of VeryDarkMan’s explanation.

With the police denying any report on the issue by VeryDarkMan, the fate of the money supposedly stolen from the NGO has been put in more doubt and with it, the credibility of the activist.

The situation continues to draw attention, with questions surrounding both the missing funds and the investigation’s progress with focus now on VeryDarkMan following the disavowal by the police of any investigation.
