Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Wednesday, January 22, locked out hundreds of workers and several commissioners from the state secretariat for arriving late to work.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, known for his unannounced visits, arrived at the secretariat at approximately 10:35 am catching many workers off guard.

His convoy’s presence prompted the gates to be shut, leaving late-arriving civil servants and top officials stranded outside.

During his tour of the secretariat, Governor Alia expressed disappointment at the absence of many senior staff and emphasized the importance of punctuality and dedication to duty.

Addressing the locked-out workers, Governor Alia warned against complacency and stressed the consequences of their actions.

“The work I do is not for me but for those who don’t even know I’m the governor. I appeal to you because I can easily get your names and terminate your appointments; I have the authority to do so,” he said.

Speaking with the tone of both a priest and a governor, Alia urged the workers to take responsibility, reminding them of the ripple effects of their actions on their families and those depending on them.

“It’s not about me. Who is the government? All of you here are the government. Even in a family, someone governs the home, and there are rules to follow. I’m speaking to you because I don’t want you to face doom,” he added.

Governor Alia concluded by calling on civil servants to commit to their duties, emphasizing that punctuality and discipline are crucial for the progress of the state which he said is expected from all workers.
