Fire Erupts On Busan Airplane

A passenger plane was gutted by fire at Gimhae International Airport in Busan, South Korea, on Tuesday night.

The incident involving an Air Busan plane led to an emergency evacuation of all 176 people on board.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Air Busan aircraft was getting ready to take off for Hong Kong when flames were noticed at the tail section around 10:30 p.m. local time (1330 GMT).

Emergency teams acted quickly, and all 169 passengers, along with seven crew members, were safely evacuated using inflatable slides. Most of the passengers escaped without harm, but one person suffered minor injuries. However, no additional details were provided about their condition.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire. Busan’s fire authorities have not released any official statements regarding the incident.

This event comes just weeks after a tragic aviation disaster in South Korea. On December 29, 2024, a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 crash-landed at Muan International Airport, killing 179 people when the aircraft struck a concrete barrier and exploded.

The recent fire raises more concerns about air travel safety in South Korea, especially after the Muan disaster and other flight safety issues in the region.

According to Flightradar24, Air Busan operates only Airbus planes. Authorities are expected to conduct a full investigation to find out what caused the fire and ensure aviation safety measures are followed.
