South Sudan Plane Crash Kills 18

At least 18 people lost their lives in a plane crash in South Sudan’s Unity State on Wednesday.

The aircraft had taken off from an oilfield in the northern part of the state before it crashed, killing most of the passengers and crew members on board.

According to reports, the plane was carrying 21 people, including crew members. Only three passengers survived, but their current condition remains unknown.

So far, South Sudan’s Information Minister, Michael Makuei, has not released an official statement regarding the tragic incident.

This crash is the latest in a series of aviation disasters in South Sudan, a country struggling with poor infrastructure and outdated aircraft.

Similar plane crashes have occurred in South Sudan in the past. In September 2018, a small passenger plane flying from Juba to Yirol crashed, killing at least 19 people. In November 2015, a Russian-built cargo plane crashed after taking off from Juba International Airport, resulting in dozens of deaths.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of this latest crash. Initial reports suggest that the aircraft may have experienced technical difficulties, though officials have not ruled out other possible causes.

The government of South Sudan has assured the public that more details will be shared once investigations on the latest plane crash are complete.
