Golf legend Tiger Woods has announced the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods, describing her as his greatest supporter and biggest fan.

In an emotional statement shared on Instagram on Tuesday, the 15-time majors champion expressed his sorrow over the loss. “It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” he wrote.

Woods paid tribute to his mother’s strong personality, saying, “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan and greatest supporter; without her, none of my personal achievements would have been possible.”

He also highlighted her deep bond with his children. “She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie.” He ended his message by thanking well-wishers. “Thank you all for your support, prayers, and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you, Mom.”

Kultida, originally from Thailand, met Woods’ father, Earl, in Bangkok in the late 1960s while he was serving in the U.S. military. She was a constant presence at many of her son’s biggest tournaments, cheering him on during his most memorable victories.

Woods has often spoken about the crucial role his mother played in his life and career. In a past interview, he admitted that he feared her more than his father, despite Earl’s background in the U.S. Special Forces. “My mom was the enforcer. My dad may have been in the Special Forces, but I was never afraid of him. My mom’s still here, and I’m still deathly afraid of her. She’s a very tough, tough old lady, very demanding. She was the hand, she was the one, I love her so much,” he once said.

Woods’ announcement has drawn messages of condolence from fans and fellow athletes worldwide as he mourns the loss of his beloved mother.
