World Cup Qualifiers: Super Eagles Get Dates For Rwanda, Zimbabwe
By Benjamin Abioye

The Super Eagles will face Rwanda on March 17 and Zimbabwe on March 24 in crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying matches.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the dates for Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
The Super Eagles will play Rwanda away on March 17, followed by a home game against Zimbabwe on March 24. These matches mark an important phase for the team under the leadership of new head coach Éric Chelle.
Both Rwanda and Zimbabwe are familiar opponents for Nigeria. In the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Nigeria faced Rwanda twice. The first encounter in September ended in a goalless draw, but Rwanda claimed a 2-1 victory in November during a match in Uyo. Zimbabwe also played against Nigeria in the qualifiers last November, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.
Currently, Nigeria is in fifth place in the standings, having earned three points from four matches. They trail leaders Rwanda by four points but still have six matches left in the campaign.
Coach Chelle, who took over as head coach recently, has emphasized the importance of these upcoming World Cup qualifiers. He stated that securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup is his top priority. Chelle noted, “My main focus is on the players and the matches in March. We need to prioritize the World Cup qualifiers first; after that, we can shift our attention to the AFCON in October. Winning these two games in March is essential,” following the recent AFCON draw in Morocco.
