Newcastle Beat Arsenal To Reach League Cup Final
By Benjamin Abioye

Newcastle United delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday night, securing a place in the League Cup final with a commanding 2-0 victory over Arsenal at St. James’ Park.
Having already beaten Mikel Arteta’s side 2-0 in the first leg at the Emirates, Newcastle completed a convincing 4-0 aggregate win to seal their spot in the final.
From the opening minutes, the Magpies looked confident, while Arsenal struggled to gain momentum. The Gunners, desperate to overturn their deficit, found themselves repeatedly frustrated by Newcastle’s well-organized defense and the brilliance of goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
The home side wasted no time in asserting control. In the 19th minute, Jacob Murphy capitalized on Arsenal’s defensive mistakes, slotting home the opener and sending the St. James’ Park crowd into celebration.
Arsenal’s problems worsened in the second half when a costly error from goalkeeper David Raya gifted Newcastle another goal. Anthony Gordon took full advantage, scoring in the 52nd minute to double their lead and effectively end Arsenal’s hopes of a comeback.
The Gunners tried to respond, but their attacks lacked precision. Declan Rice had the best chance to score in the 89th minute, but Dubravka pulled off a brilliant reflex save to deny him. Late opportunities for Kai Havertz and Myles Lewis-Skelly also failed to change the scoreline.
As frustration set in, tempers flared. Several Arsenal players received yellow cards, including Raheem Sterling, who was booked after coming on as a substitute. Newcastle’s Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes also found themselves in the referee’s book as tensions ran high.
With this victory, Newcastle has now advanced to the League Cup final, where they will compete for the prestigious trophy.
