My Spine Is Going, Toyin Lawani Laments Epidural Injections (Video)

Celebrity stylist Toyin Lawani has revealed that she is suffering from a degenerating spine due to an epidural injection she received during childbirth.

In a video posted on her Instagram page, Toyin Lawani shared that she has been experiencing severe back pain since taking the epidural injection. She explained that while doctors inform patients about the immediate side effects of epidurals, they often do not fully disclose the long-term consequences.

“When you hear ‘epidural,’ run,” Toyin Lawani warned. “Doctors tell you about the side effects but do not tell you about the long-term effects on your body. I have about three friends having the same issues that I am having.”

She went on to express disbelief at her condition, saying, “Like, I am just 42, how did I end up with spine issues? I have a degenerating spine. I have implants in my spine. I go paralyzed. I can’t stand for a long time. I can’t even breathe properly sometimes because it affected so many things in my body when I had the surgery.”

Toyin Lawani disclosed that she received epidural injections for the birth of her last two children, whereas her first childbirth was a natural delivery. She recounted how she had no choice but to take the injection for her last childbirth due to a required surgery.

“They will not tell you because you just want the pain to go away. I have had two epidurals. I had my first as natural birth. The last two were epidural. The last one I had epidural because I had to undergo a surgery and I had no choice,” she explained.

Expressing her frustration, she added, “See, the pain does not stop. My back is killing me, and my spine is degenerating.”

Her revelation has sparked discussions on the long-term effects of epidural injections, with many women sharing their own experiences across social and other Nigerian news media.
