By Gideon Ayeni

Actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot became the center of online discussions after a video emerged showing him in tears, visibly emotional following the resignation of Mojisola Meranda as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Meranda announced her resignation during a plenary session on Monday, paving the way for the reinstatement of the impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa a development that drew tears from Desmond Elliot, a member of the House.
In the now-viral clip, Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency 1, struggled to contain his emotions as he attempted to deliver a farewell speech. Dressed in a black native outfit, the 51-year-old lawmaker appeared overwhelmed and requested to speak later, saying, “Madam Speaker, can you allow others to speak first?”

Meranda responded, “Have your seat,” prompting Elliot to sit down, visibly shaken as he wiped away tears. His colleague, Seyi Lawal of Ikeja Constituency 1, was then allowed to speak in his place.
The video has since sent the social media abuzz, with many netizens speculating that Elliot may have had personal or political stakes in Meranda’s leadership.
