Police Question Celebrities’ Lamborghini Boom
By Benjamin Abioye

Lagos Police PRO Benjamin Hundeyin’s comment on the rising Lamborghini purchases by celebrities in Nigeria has sparked massive reactions on social media.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, has set social media on fire with a playful yet thought-provoking comment about the rising trend of luxury car purchases and notably of Lamborghini in Nigeria, especially among celebrities.
Taking to his X handle, he wrote: “I want to buy a Lamborghini, please where are you all getting this money from?”
His statement came in the wake of recent Lamborghini purchases by Nigerian celebrities, including Burna Boy, Davido’s baby mama Sophie Momodu, and BBNaija star Mercy Eke. Their luxury acquisitions had already ignited widespread discussions, but Hundeyin’s comment has now added a new twist, drawing strong reactions from Nigerians online.
Hundeyin’s remark quickly went viral, with many users responding with sarcasm, skepticism, and outright mockery.
@lifeissues_11 questioned his financial reality: “Ole ole ole. Your IG no see money buy Lamborghini, na you wey be DSP wey your salary na 270k wan see money go buy? How many years of saving do you need to get N500 million?”
@THE_CRAFT3R made reference to the Nigerian government’s crackdown on cryptocurrency exchanges: “The last update we share with una, una jail Binance staff, till the poor man begin speak pidgin.”
Others offered unconventional “advice” on how Hundeyin could afford a Lamborghini. @amakannie joked: “Very easy, just drop that badge, enter street, dress like woman.”
Meanwhile, @MurtalaSaleh073 suggested a more extreme method: “Sell your kidney, you say NO.”
Some users pointed fingers at alleged police corruption. @AdediniSegun wrote: “Don’t worry, the money your boys dey collect for express go buy am, just have patience and be disciplined.”
Another user, @CroBender, added: “Police always have a guaranteed source of income with or without wages.”
Hundeyin’s comment has intensified the ongoing debate on wealth and luxury in Nigeria. It all began when Burna Boy bought a Lamborghini, followed by Sophie Momodu, who also acquired one. Shortly after, Mercy Eke proudly showed off her Lamborghini Huracán, fueling speculations about how Nigerian celebrities are affording these high-end vehicles.
Now, with a high-ranking police officer publicly questioning the trend, the conversation has shifted from celebrities to the broader financial system in Nigeria. Some believe his comment was just a joke, while others see it as an indirect reflection of economic inequality and corruption.
Whatever the case, one thing is certain—Lamborghinis have become the new status symbol in Nigeria, and even the police want to know the plug!
