A stakeholders’ group from Kogi Central has issued an apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, stating they have distanced themselves from Senator Natasha’s claims.

A group known as the Kogi Central Concerned Stakeholders has publicly distanced itself from the ongoing dispute between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The group has also issued an unreserved apology to Akpabio on behalf of the Ebira people, condemning what they describe as her “inappropriate behavior.”

In an open letter addressed to Akpabio, the stakeholders expressed disappointment over the public controversy surrounding the matter. They noted that the disagreement stemmed from a simple matter of compliance with Senate rules but has since escalated into what they see as a personal attack on the Senate President.

The group recalled that Akpabio had shown immense support for Senator Natasha long before she joined the National Assembly, largely due to his long-standing friendship with her husband, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan.

“We shall not forget in a hurry how Kogi Central stood still when Senator Akpabio led a contingent of important personalities and politicians to attend the wedding ceremony of now-Senator Natasha to his friend and ally, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan,” the letter stated.

They further highlighted that when Natasha’s Senate bid seemed uncertain, Akpabio’s intervention played a key role in ensuring she eventually assumed office. According to them, he nominated Senator Abubakar Ohere as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, allegedly to “hold space” for Natasha, who later secured her seat through a Court of Appeal ruling.

The stakeholders also pointed out that Natasha, despite being a first-time senator, was granted the privilege of chairing the Senate Committee on Local Content, a position they described as highly influential.

“Due to Senator Natasha’s first-line influence and connection to the Senate President, she was able to attract meaningful empowerment programs, which she leveraged to advance her political career back home,” they added.

Expressing their disappointment over the sexual harassment allegations and the subsequent media frenzy, the stakeholders firmly dissociated themselves from Natasha’s actions, stating that her conduct does not reflect the values of the people of Kogi Central.

“We are known for showing gratitude, loyalty, and fidelity to friendship. We therefore condemn the actions, utterances, and smear campaign of our daughter against the distinguished Senate President, Godswill Akpabio,” the group stated.

The group warned that if Senator Natasha’s conduct persists, they might be compelled to initiate a recall process to remove her from office.

“As a people, we do not condone public abuse of the privilege of representation. If this behavior continues, we may have no choice but to commence the process of recall,” they declared.

In their closing remarks, the group pledged full support for the Senate leadership and urged the red chamber to take necessary disciplinary actions against Natasha to serve as a deterrent to other senators.

“The Senate must proceed with its laid-down disciplinary measures and take appropriate action. This will serve as a warning to others who may attempt to bring the institution into disrepute,” the letter concluded.
