Court Hearing Date Rivers Suspension

Governor Fubara has remained determined to re-present the 2025 budget, even after being locked out of the Assembly and ignored by the Speaker.

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has restated his willingness to present the 2025 budget again whenever the State House of Assembly is ready to receive it.

He made this announcement on Wednesday while speaking to residents of Khana Local Government Area during the commissioning of health facilities. His statement followed an incident where he was denied access to the Assembly quarters on Wednesday.

Expressing disappointment over the situation, Fubara insisted that he had properly informed Speaker Martins Amaewhule about his planned visit. He remained hopeful that the lawmakers might reconsider their stance. “I still believe, maybe, they might be instructed later. If they are instructed, I’m still ready to come any day to get this particular issue sorted out,” Fubara said of his intention to re-present the 2025 budget to the lawmakers.

Earlier in the day, the governor attempted to enter the official quarters of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Aba Road, Port Harcourt. However, lawmakers loyal to a former governor had been holding legislative sessions there, and Fubara was stopped from entering.

He arrived at the complex with top officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, and his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie. However, they were met with a locked gate, preventing them from going inside.

Speaking to journalists at the scene, Fubara accused Speaker Martins Amaewhule of deliberately avoiding him. He added that several attempts to reach the lawmaker through phone calls had been ignored.
