Presidency Anti-Tinubu Coalition

The presidency has reacted to the newly formed opposition anti-Tinubu coalition, with Bayo Onanuga, dismissing its leaders as “sore losers” driven by self-interest and frustration.

A political storm erupted on social media after Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, dismissed the newly formed anti-Tinubu coalition as a gathering of “haters” and sore losers.

Onanuga, in a post on X, stated:
“President Tinubu is focused on governance to build a prosperous country. He is on the way to achieving this. Two months to his midterm, he has many solid achievements to showcase. Intractable problems are being tackled headlong. He cannot be distracted by the so-called coalition of politicians. They are not politicians after the Public Good. It’s all about their self-interest. They are disgruntled. They are a frustrated lot. The leaders are sore losers. The coalition is an amalgam of Tinubu haters. Their agenda is to stop Tinubu.”

His comments triggered a wave of reactions, with supporters and critics engaging in heated exchanges.

Some agreed with Onanuga’s stance, arguing that the coalition is made up of disgruntled politicians seeking power at all costs. One user, @adeyanjubiodun, described them as “a coalition of strange bedfellows, united by common hatred for Tinubu because they lost out in the power equation.” Another, @talkischeapfr, claimed, “Their agenda is to stop Tinubu.”

However, critics pushed back, questioning Tinubu’s achievements and governance style. @olusolasanni fired back, saying, “Tinubu MUST be stopped to rescue the country from him and his axis of evil like Akapbio, Wike, and the rest.” @eskelebeti challenged Onanuga to “mention two solid achievements that have benefited an average Nigerian.”

Others pointed out the irony of Onanuga’s outrage, recalling Tinubu’s role in unseating former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. @mauriceekpeyong remarked, “Why are you fuming and fretting over the coalition to unseat Tinubu in 2027? After all Tinubu played a key role when APC was formed to wrestle power from Jonathan in 2015. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander.”

The debate also extended to Tinubu’s handling of governance, with many highlighting the economic hardship Nigerians are facing. @MosesAriakporu argued, “Their agenda is to stop Tinubu bcos he has not prove to d masses dat he’s capable of lifting them frm dis abject poverty & economic hardship he brought upon d pple thru fuel subsidy removal.”

With the opposition’s anti-Tinubu coalition gaining traction and the presidency reacting swiftly, political observers believe the battle for 2027 has already begun. Whether the coalition can mount a serious challenge or remains a fragmented opposition remains to be seen.
