Super Eagles Set For London Clash Against Ghana In Jollof Derby
By Benjamin Abioye

The Super Eagles are set to face their longtime rivals, the Black Stars of Ghana, in an international friendly match in London.
This much-anticipated encounter, often called the “Jollof Derby,” will renew the historic football rivalry between the two West African giants.
Before traveling to England, the Super Eagles will first play a friendly match against Russia in Moscow on Friday, June 6. This will be their first game of the international window and an opportunity to test their squad ahead of the Ghana clash.
The Nigerian team is coming off a 2-1 victory over Ghana in a friendly match played in Morocco in March 2024. They aim to build on that success as they meet their rivals again after a year. Although the exact date and venue for the London fixture have yet to be confirmed, the match is expected to serve as a crucial part of Nigeria’s preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
With World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and South Africa scheduled for September, the Super Eagles see this game as an essential test. “Every match counts,” a source revealed, explaining that the team will use the Ghana friendly to fine-tune tactics and improve squad cohesion ahead of the qualifiers.
On the other hand, Ghana, who currently lead their qualifying group, will be looking to bounce back after failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. This match provides an important opportunity for them to evaluate their squad and make necessary adjustments as they continue their push for a World Cup spot.
As excitement builds, fans from both nations eagerly await what promises to be an intense and entertaining showdown between two of Africa’s football powerhouses.
