Kogi Government Natasha Rally

Kogi State Government has stopped Senator Natasha’s planned homecoming rally, enforcing a ban on public gatherings due to security concerns and recent violent incidents.

The Kogi State Government has halted a planned homecoming rally for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, originally scheduled for Tuesday.

The senator, who has been suspended from the Senate and is currently challenging her suspension after accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, was set to be welcomed by her constituents in a grand reception.

The rally, expected to commence at 9 a.m., has now been disrupted following a government directive banning public gatherings and rallies. The state governor, Usman Ododo, has imposed a statewide restriction, citing credible security concerns. Additionally, the government has suspended fishing activities in certain areas due to reports of violent conflicts.

In an official statement, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining peace. The statement pointed to recent violence in Kogi Local Government Area, particularly in Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette, where a crisis related to fishing activities has resulted in two fatalities. As a result, all fishing in these locations has been put on hold until normalcy is restored, with security forces deployed to enforce the directive.

When contacted for comments regarding whether she would proceed with the rally despite the government’s restrictions, Akpoti-Uduaghan did not provide a response.
