Usain Bolt’s Father, Wellesley Bolt Dies At 68
By Benjamin Abioye

Wellesley Bolt, the father of famous Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, has passed away at the age of 68. He died on Monday in Jamaica after battling a long illness.
Wellesley was a dedicated family man, the father of three children: Usain, Sadiki, and Christine Bolt-Hylton. Together with his wife, Jennifer, he ran a local grocery store, becoming well-known in their community, though they kept a low profile.
Despite his humble lifestyle, Wellesley played a crucial role in Usain’s rise to fame. His support, guidance, and wisdom were key factors in helping Usain become an eight-time Olympic gold medalist. Wellesley was always there for his son, providing vital encouragement as Usain navigated the challenges of fame and competition.
Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, expressed his condolences on social media. He wrote: “I join with every Jamaican in extending my deepest and most sincere condolences to Usain Bolt, his beloved mother Mrs. Jennifer Bolt, and the entire Bolt family, following the passing of their patriarch, Mr. Wellesley Bolt. Mr. Bolt was the father of a global icon and a strong, quiet force behind one of Jamaica’s greatest sons. His presence, support, and guidance helped to shape a legacy that continues to inspire the world.”
Wellesley is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and their three children.
