Lagos NURTW Chairman Escapes Assassination

The Chairman of the Lagos State branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle Adio, popularly known as Tafa Sego, reportedly escaped an assassination plot on Saturday night.

The alleged assassination plot on Tafa Sego reportedly happened at his residence in Surulere, Lagos.

According to reports, six armed men stormed his house around 11 pm with the aim of killing him. However, he was not at home when they arrived. It was gathered that he had left earlier in the evening to attend an event with some visitors who had come to see him earlier that day.

When the attackers got to the house, they met only the security guard. They tied him up and searched the house for the union leader. Despite searching everywhere, they could not find him, and their plan failed.

A union stakeholder, Prince Idowu Onikoyi, confirmed the attack during a phone conversation on Monday. He said, “The Chairman is fine and in good health. The police have been informed about the incident, and the security guard has already reported the matter at the police station.”

Residents of the area expressed shock over the assassination attempt on Tafa Sego. Many said they are now living in fear, worried that the attackers might return. The attack has caused tension in the area, which was previously peaceful.

Police officers from Area C Command visited the scene shortly after the attack. They examined the property and took note of the damages. The security guard who was beaten by the attackers was also questioned by the police to help in their investigation.

A close associate of Tafa Sego expressed concern over the assassination attempt, especially because it happened at a time when the union leader was making efforts to improve the welfare of NURTW members. The associate said, “The Chairman is deeply concerned about being targeted, especially at a time when he is pushing for reforms aimed at bettering the lives of our members. We are not backing down, and we will ensure full cooperation with the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
