NPFL To Probe Attack On Ikorodu City In Ibadan
By Benjamin Abioye

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is to investigate the recent attack on players that happened during a match between Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City in Ibadan.
The Ikorodu City – Shooting Stars game was part of the league’s Matchday 32 fixtures and took place at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
After Shooting Stars won the game, trouble broke out. Some fans of Shooting Stars damaged the bus belonging to the visiting Ikorodu City team. According to witnesses, the situation became so tense that the police had to step in to stop the angry fans from reaching the dressing room, where the Ikorodu City players were.
The Ikorodu City team was stuck in the stadium for almost two hours after the match. Eventually, soldiers were called in to escort them safely away from the stadium.
Reacting to the incident, NPFL Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, described the event as unacceptable. He confirmed that the league board would meet on Wednesday to carry out an investigation into what happened.
“We are fully aware of the unacceptable occurrence that took place, and we have arranged a disciplinary meeting to determine the appropriate measures needed to prevent such incidents in the future,” Elegbeleye said.
He also assured fans and clubs that the league would continue to protect its integrity. “We will consistently act to eliminate all forms of disreputable behaviors to preserve an environment free from unsporting conduct before, during, and after league matches,” he added.
