New Details On How Peter Obi’s Campaign Boy Landed In Kirikiri
By Gideon Ayeni

Fresh details have emerged surrounding the continued detention of Yusuf Alabi Quadri, the teenage boy who went viral in 2023 for emotionally stopping the convoy of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 9, human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, confirmed that Yusuf Alabi has been remanded at the Minimum Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos, since January 2025. Effiong visited the Apapa Magistrate Court and later Kirikiri alongside Alabi’s mother, family members, and a concerned activist.
According to Effiong, Yusuf Alabi was abducted near his home by known “area boys” who had previously harassed him over the financial support he received after going viral during the electioneering period. The attackers, he said, were aggrieved over Alabi’s refusal to “settle” them and subsequently dragged him to the Amukoko Police Station.
The police, in what many have now described as a travesty of justice, arraigned Yusuf Alabi alongside four adult strangers, accusing them of armed robbery involving cutlasses and items worth N579,000. The case has since been pending as the court awaits legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Effiong emphasized that Alabi is a minor, yet he has been remanded with adult suspects and has appeared before the Magistrate Court on three occasions. He said: “After spending hours interviewing him, we left the facility convinced that this young man is just another victim of Nigeria’s broken justice system.”

The legal team has vowed to pursue every legal means to secure Alabi’s release, with the lawyer calling on the public to stay alert and lend support. “Nigeria has happened to Alabi,” he said, a sentiment now echoing across social media platforms.
