A leaked document from the U.S. State Department reveals that nearly 30 embassies and consulates, including several in Africa, could be closed under Trump’s administration.

The government under U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to shut down nearly 30 American embassies and consulates around the world, including several in Africa.

This development is based on information from a leaked document believed to have come from the U.S. State Department.

According to the document, diplomatic missions in countries such as the Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Lesotho, and South Sudan may be among those set to close. A U.S. consulate in South Africa is also reportedly on the list.

“The document recommends closing 10 embassies and 17 consulates. Many of the posts are in Europe and Africa, though they also include locations in Asia and the Caribbean. These include embassies in Malta, Luxembourg, Lesotho, the Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan,” the report noted.

It added, “The list also includes five consulates in France, two in Germany, two in Bosnia and Herzegovina, one in the United Kingdom, one in South Africa, and one in South Korea.”

This move is said to be part of a larger plan by the Trump team, reportedly supported by the Elon Musk-backed Department of Government Efficiency. The goal is to reduce the size of the federal government and cut spending, particularly within the State Department.

The same report suggests that America’s presence in key locations like Somalia and Iraq could also be scaled down, even though these areas have been central to U.S. counterterrorism strategies.

There is no official word yet on whether Secretary of State Marco Rubio supports the idea, and the State Department has not issued any public response regarding the leaked information.
