Football Star Collapse Dies During Warm-Up

South African footballer Sinamandla Zondi, popularly known as Sgora, tragically passed away after collapsing during the warm-up before his team’s second-tier match. The match was abandoned after officials learned of his death.

South African footballer Sinamandla Zondi aka Sgora, tragically passed away on Tuesday after collapsing during a warm-up session before a match.

The 22-year-old defender, more known by his nickname “Sgora,” was preparing for the game between Durban City and Milford FC when he suddenly fell ill. He was rushed to the hospital, but the match was called off at halftime after officials were informed of his death. The cause of his passing is yet to be determined.

Durban City, the club Zondi played for, expressed deep sorrow following his death. “It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Sinamandla Zondi, aka Sgora, a loved member of the Durban City family,” the club said in a statement. They highlighted that Zondi was not just a talented player, but also a cherished teammate, friend, brother, and son, whose positive impact extended beyond the football field.

The club continued to offer support, stating, “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, teammates, coaches, and everyone affected by this tragic loss. We will continue to support those close to him during this difficult time.”

Zondi had made his professional debut in September 2021 and had become a key figure for Durban City. The team is currently leading in the second-tier league and is on the path to promotion to the country’s top-flight league. His untimely death has left a significant void in the football community, with many mourning the loss of a rising star with immense potential.
