journalists at war over Tinu

A planned visit to All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has sparked war among Nigerian journalists with the influential sports writing union pulling out of the visit.

GWG reports that the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, the umbrella body for journalists in the country was alleged to have written a letter to Tinubu requesting him to grand audience for the visit.

The letter allegedly written by a national officer of the NUJ reportedly averred that SWAN would partake in the visit to Tinubu.

However, denying the insinuation, SWAN through its secretary-general, Jude Opara averred that the sports writing body was never part of the proposed visit.

SWAN said:

“While we accept that the NUJ has the right to interact with Tinubu or any other person for that matter, we make bold to state that as a duly registered organization under the Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we are not part of the purported NUJ arrangement.

“SWAN is not part of the NUJ delegation to the said meeting with Tinubu and anybody who introduces himself as a representative of SWAN at the occasion is simply an impostor.”

GWG reports that the scheduled visit to Tinubu by the journalists was expected to stir controversy as it is presently doing stirring war among the journalists.
