UEFA have confirmed the ban on Russia from the 2024 European Championship on account of the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

Russian teams were banned in February from international competitions by both UEFA and world footballing body FIFA days after the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

A Russian appeal against those decisions was dismissed at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

UEFA also decided to let Belarus go into the 2024 Euro draw next month despite a government request from tournament host Germany to remove the team because Belarus is a military ally of Russia.

Belarus will be in the 53-nation draw that Russia are banned from, although the Belarusians cannot be placed in the same group as neighboring Ukraine for security reasons.

The ban of Russia from the 2024 European Championship is not the only ban placed on the country on account of the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

Remember that the Russian women’s team was also kicked out of this year’s Euro in England, with Portugal taking their place.

Germany will host the 2024 European Championship, with the qualifying draw scheduled for October 9 in Frankfurt.

UEFA has confirmed, however, that Belarus, which has been an ally of Russia during their invasion of Ukraine, will be included in the qualifying draw at this stage.

Germany’s interior minister has also requested that Belarus be barred from participating in the tournament due to the country’s support for Russia.

The 53 remaining nations will be divided into seven groups of five teams and three groups of six teams as a result of Russia’s exclusion and Germany’s automatic qualification.
