Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has finally joined his national teammates as they prepare for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

GWG.ng recalls that Osimhen has been extremely busy, working with his handlers to secure a move to a new club lately. The striker, who had played for Napoli since 2020, submitted a transfer request earlier this summer, seeking to continue his career elsewhere.

However, a major obstacle arose in the form of the €130 million release clause in his contract, signed in December 2023. This hefty fee proved difficult for potential buyers, including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, and Arsenal, among others.

As the transfer window neared its end, Napoli lowered their demands to facilitate the 25-year-old striker’s departure, but clubs like Chelsea and Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli were still unable to meet the financial expectations of both the player and Napoli.

As a result, the transfer window closed across major European leagues without Osimhen securing a new club. In response, Napoli excluded him from their squad and revoked his shirt number 9.

Luckily, Turkish champions Galatasaray expressed interest in the striker and secured his services on a season-long loan. On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Galatasaray officially unveiled Osimhen as their new player.

Following this, Osimhen flew back to Nigeria and joined the Super Eagles’ training session on September 5, 2024. In a video shared on the Super Eagles’ official Instagram page, Osimhen is seen happily greeting his teammates and the coaching staff before their training session at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital.
