Presidential Candidate Expelled

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Accord Party has expelled its 2023 presidential candidate, Professor Christopher Imumolen, along with seven other members.

The expulsion was based on their alleged involvement in activities that were harmful to the party.

This decision was made during an NEC meeting in Abuja on Wednesday and was announced in a statement signed by Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, the national chairman, and Dr. Adebukola A. Ajaja, the national secretary.

The expulsions followed recommendations from a seven-member disciplinary committee, which investigated allegations of serious misconduct, anti-party actions, and violations of the party’s constitution.

The NEC statement noted, “NEC unanimously approved, upheld, and endorsed disciplinary measures against members involved in factionalising the party, bringing it into disrepute, and violating its constitution.”

In addition to Imumolen, other expelled members include: Lanre Ogundare, Chairman of Lagos State; Surajo Ibrahim, Chairman of Zamfara State; Muktar Abdalla, Chairman of Borno State; Chief Abiola Samuel Odeoba, former Chairman of Ekiti State; Dr. Falaye Ajibola, former Chairman of Ondo State; Dzingina Jacob Ephraim, Chairman of Nasarawa State; and Prince Adebisi Wale Ganiy.

Additionally, three individuals—Salimu Lawal Boyi from Katsina, Fatima Mohammed Zarumi from Yobe, and Abdullahi Isa Kasowa from Bauchi—have been suspended.

The NEC emphasized the importance of adhering to the party’s constitution to prevent any form of disorder and expressed confidence in the leadership of Mgbudem. The committee also commended his efforts to revitalize and rebrand the Accord Party in preparation for the 2027 elections.
