The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State has criticized the alleged takeover of its secretariat in Oghara, Ethiope-West Local Government Area, by individuals believed to be working for Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu.

The incident, described as an unlawful invasion, reportedly involved repainting the building in the colors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party Ibori-Suenu recently joined.

Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu, the Delta State PDP Publicity Secretary, released a statement addressing the incident. He said, “The Delta State chapter of the PDP condemns the invasion of its secretariat in Oghara by thugs allegedly acting on the orders of Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, who has defected to the APC. This action, which included repainting the building in APC colors, is both provocative and disgraceful.”

Okorodudu described the action as a desperate attempt by Ibori-Suenu to appropriate PDP’s assets for her new political affiliation. He added, “Her defection appears poorly thought out and motivated by personal ambition rather than a genuine political ideology. Instead of building her own identity within the APC, she has resorted to hijacking PDP’s established structures, seeking to borrow the party’s credibility for her new platform.”

Labeling the incident as a direct attack on democratic principles, Okorodudu declared, “This brazen act of theft is unacceptable. The PDP will not sit idly by while its assets and reputation are undermined by those prioritizing opportunism over genuine public service.”

Despite the provocation, the PDP called for calm among its members. “We urge our supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding. There is no need to respond with violence or disorder. We will pursue legal remedies to address this infringement,” Okorodudu assured.

He also advised Ibori-Suenu and her allies to stop using PDP’s reputation for political gain. “If they truly believe in the APC’s vision, they should work to establish their own identity rather than relying on the PDP’s credibility and legacy,” he stated.

Okorodudu emphasized the party’s commitment to maintaining peace in Delta State, urging security agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly and hold those responsible accountable. “Delta State is known for its peace and enlightenment. We will not allow political mischief-makers to disrupt the harmony in the state,” he concluded.

The PDP reaffirmed its dedication to democracy, justice, and good governance while calling on all stakeholders to uphold these values.
