The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly rebuffed alleged moves against the national vice-chairman of the party, South-South, Chief Dan Orbih saying party officials who instigated his purported his suspension overreached themselves.

Affirming that those that announced the suspension of Orbih from the party lacked the constitutional power to carry out the action, the NWC nevertheless said that it was also studying complaints and issues raised by some stakeholders with a view to addressing such through constitutional means.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Orbih who helped to build the party for about 11 years it was in opposition and marshalled the re-election of Governor Godwin Obaseki on the platform of the PDP has been in the eyes of the storm over moves by some stakeholders to dissolve the structures of the party to allow those who came into the party take party positions.

There have also been allegations that some stakeholders who lost out in the congresses want to use the opportunity to also fit into the structures.

The agitations led some stakeholders to recently announce the suspension of Orbih, a move that has now been firmly rejected by the national leadership.

PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondinyan in a statement nullifying the suspension of Orbih, said:

“While the national leadership notes the issues and complaints raised by stakeholders in Edo state, it however charges the chapter to be guided by the provisions of the Constitution of our great party, with regard to imposition of sanctions on party officers at any level stressing that the rules are clear and must be adhered to.

“Consequently, the purported suspension of the National Vice Chairman, South-South, Chief Dan Orbih, a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our party, by the Edo North Senatorial leadership of the party, is statutorily beyond its powers, and to that effect a nullity.

“The NWC however assures that it is taking strong steps to ensure amicable resolution of all issues and ensure that the interests of all member in the chapter are protected.

“The NWC urges all members in Edo state to remain united and focused, especially at this time that Nigerians are looking up to our party for direction ahead of the 2023 general elections.”
